Presumably a barrister by day! "Res ipsa loquitur" is a legal term which means "the thing speaks for itself", the principle being that the occurrence of an accident implies negligence, or at its simplest, that the cause of the accident in question is so obvious that the defendant is assumed to have been responsible.
